I am not weak . . .
[/blockquote]
“Try again,” Resyn told them both.
Kyth lifted her head, sweat dripping from her. She had several cuts on her body and a broken rib, which was already healing. Syn was balancing on one leg; the other had been snapped and he was letting it heal as he held it off the ground. His left arm was cut up, but it still held his sword, and his right hand held the black thread.
A creature stood before them, without an eye, Syn’s black thread twining around his leg, bloody gashes all over him.
“Hurry,” Syn panted.
Kyth gave a swift nod, and she darted forward again.
Her markings glowing, she let out a shriek, slamming her palms against the creature’s shoulder as it swung to meet her. This time, the disintegration hit right, and the creature gave a wail as it began to die.
Kyth landed beside Syn, panting.
Syn recalled his black thread and sat heavily, groaning.
Resyn came forward as Kyth sat too, and he knelt beside them and began to wrap their wounds.
“I don’t want mine wrapped,” Syn hissed, but Resyn carefully rolled up his pant leg anyway and began to work at setting his leg.
Kyth rubbed her rib as she felt it begin to heal, grimacing.
“Lay down,” Resyn told Kyth. “It’ll heal straight.”
Kyth slowly lowered herself onto her back, letting out a moan. She lay there quietly, and focused on catching her breath.
Syn watched Resyn fix his leg, growling and snarling the entire time. He really didn’t like other people touching him, especially not other men, even if it was just on the leg.
“Hold still,” Resyn directed him, and snapped his leg back into place.
Syn let out a shriek of pain and swung his sword at Resyn, who merely ducked to dodge it and then shoved Syn’s shoulders to the ground.
“Don’t attack me,” Resyn said, his voice stern and stiff.
Syn hissed at him but got quiet, laying still as Resyn began to wrap his leg.
Once Kyth felt her ribs had healed, she stood, her legs trembling. She’d never been so exhausted in her life.
“We’re doing level 10 missions after this one, Syn,” She told him.
Syn nodded, agreeing.
Once Resyn had finished treating them both, he stood.
“Where’d that Kinjuki go?” Resyn muttered, glancing around.
“Right here,” Hyin landed beside him, standing straight. “There are three more creatures around the area.”
“Shit,” Kyth cussed.
Syn stood once Resyn got his leg wrapped, merely standing on his good leg.
“I’m sick of this,” Syn’s voice was dark; he was angry. “Kyth, come with me, this will only take a moment.”
Kyth stood. “What are you going to do?”
“Use my powers.”
Kyth stared at him.
Syn glared. “Let’s go. I want to go home.”
“O-okay…” Kyth followed him, shocked.
Syn hopped down the street on his one good leg, and when he reached the next creature, he cussed and ripped the bandage off, standing perfectly on both legs.
“Kyth, the second he gets still, attack,” Syn mumbled.
Kyth nodded.
Syn held up his hands, his long sleeved shirt’s sleeves falling back to his elbows. He focused on the creature, and suddenly, it became very still, letting out a whining sound.
Kyth charged, markings glowing, slamming her hands onto it. It began to disintegrate, and Syn lowered his hands. The creature was freed, and it thrashed as it died.
“Why didn’t you do that earlier?!” Kyth cried. “That’s so much easier!”
Instead of hitting him, she began laughing.
Syn’s head tilted curiously.
She laughed, holding her belly as she did, head thrown back. Her silvery hair looked like a river as it trembled with her shaking laughs.
“Let’s keep going,” She grinned. “This should be fun now.”
Syn smirked.-------------------------------------------------------------------------
“How many was that?” Kyth panted.
“Seven,” Resyn told her. “You’re doing good. Rest a bit.”
Kyth nodded and sat heavily, leaning against a wall. She was soaked with sweat, her body trembling from exertion. She couldn’t wait to get home and take a shower.
“Water…” Syn rasped. He was lying on his back in the middle of the walkway they were in, breathing heavily. “Please…” He lifted a hand weakly.
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Kyth breathed, but she felt the same way.
Resyn tossed a bottle to Kyth and went over to Syn, handing him one. Syn didn’t even open the bottle; he simply bit into it and let the water trickle out of the holes. Resyn sighed and took the bottle from him, opening it. Syn opened his mouth and the Infirmary Reacher poured the water in his mouth. Syn gulped it down thirstily.
Hyin was suddenly right beside them.
“Hey,” He muttered as he stood. “There’s something weird going on the next block over. It’s a bunch of Reachers.”
“What are they doing?” Kyth asked.
“Fighting.”
Kyth stood, letting out a groan as her body stung in protest. Syn followed, pouring the rest of the water over his head. He trotted after Kyth as she strode after Hyin.
He led them around several buildings before they heard yelling. When they turned the corner, they saw several Reachers surrounding two others. The two were cornered in an ally; one on the ground without a left leg and one standing over him, shaking. Jet black hair swung down to her waist, golden green eyes glaring at the Reachers that surrounded them. The Reacher without a leg was a male. He had black hair the same color as the girl’s, and light, icy blue eyes.
The Reachers surrounding them were grinning, and one of the guys darted forward suddenly, grabbing the girl’s arm and twisting it so she was forced to turn around. He held a knife to her throat.
The black-haired man let out a scream. “NO! LET HER GO!”
“I’m okay,” The girl assured him, but she was trembling.
“Hey,” Kyth’s voice broke through the air like a snake. “What the hell?”
One of the Reachers—he looked like the leader—stepped up. He grinned at her, pushing dark green hair from his caramel colored eyes. “Hey, babe, who’re you?”
Kyth’s hand shot out, gripping his arm. In two seconds, his entire arm had dissipated.
The Reacher let out a yowl, stumbling backwards, holding the blood hole where his arm had once been.
“How about you step away from them?” Kyth nodded towards the two cornered Reachers. “Before that happens to your head.”
“What’s your level?!” The boy snapped, growling.
“15,” Kyth snarled. “Though by how much I’ve been doing lately I’m hoping for a 16 when I get back.”
The boy grimaced.
“It’s a Kimata!” Someone she couldn’t see yelled. “She has to have it!”
The boy’s eyes became wild, and he screeched, “WHERE IS IT?! WHERE’S THE KEY?!”
“What key?” Kyth asked, completely calm.
Syn came up beside her, hunched over.
“The key,” The boy shook. “I need the key now! I know you have it!”
“I don’t know anything about a key,” Kyth sighed. She thought it was strange, though. Hadn’t the man who had threatened Alabaster been asking for a key as well?
Syn lifted his hand, eyes flashing. He looked annoyed.
The man holding the girl suddenly let her go, and charged at his friends, looking panicked. He slashed at them, knocking them over, and two others joined him, striking at the others. Syn was grimacing.
“How unfortunate,” Kyth smiled slightly. “It seems as if Syn’s gotten a hold of you.”
“What the hell is this?!” Someone cried.
“Syn can control blood,” Kyth’s smile widened. “Right now, he’s controlling your blood by moving your body with it. After all, you’re body is filled with blood.”
Syn directed all of them to the wall, and he made them sit.
“Go ahead, Kyth,” Syn nodded towards them.
Kyth stepped forward, facing the first guy. “What’s the key?” She asked.
“Not telling,” He snapped.
Kyth put her hand on his head and he suddenly didn’t have one. Syn let him drop.
The Reachers started shaking.
“What’s the key?” Kyth asked the next one.
“W-we don’t kn-know…” He stammered. “H-he told us to ask a Kimata for the key!”
“Who’s he?” Kyth asked, eyes flashing.
“I d-don’t know!”
Kyth’s hand came up and he let out a cry before his head disintegrated.
She moved on to the next one.
By the time she was finished, she gained no more information and all the Reachers were dead.
She turned to the boy and the girl in the alley. The girl was sitting beside the boy, holding him against her. He lay in her arms, shaking, in pain.
Kyth approached them.
The girl turned her body to shield the boy, trembling as though she were soaked.
“Calm down,” Kyth told her. “I don’t want to hurt either of you.”
Resyn stepped forward from where he had been watching. He knelt down beside the boy and began working on his leg. “I’m going to give you some pain killer,” He told him. “We’ll get you to the hotel we’re staying at and then I’ll give you some sedatives and you can sleep through the worst of it.”
The boy nodded and gulped down the medicine he was given frantically. The girl continued holding him, stroking his black hair. She looked anxious and worried, but her eyes were on Kyth and Syn. She was scared of them.
“Who is he?” Kyth asked the girl.
The girl stiffened, looking terrified. “M-my older b-brother…” She whimpered. “Don’t hurt him…”
“I won’t,” Kyth assured gently. “Do either of you know what the key is?”
The girl shook her head, but the boy grunted, “Kona Myren knows…”
“Kona Myren?” Kyth looked confused. “But that’s Rynu’s old partner…”
“Wasn’t Black Binta keeping her hostage, asking her for something?” Syn asked.
“Yeah…” Kyth turned her head slightly, thinking.
Seeing she was lost in thought, Syn snickered and moved closer towards the siblings.
The girl shrank away, holding her brother closer. Syn smiled. The girl’s eyes suddenly turned furious and she jerked her head towards him, pulling her lips back with a violent hiss.
“Woah,” Syn held up his hands, still smiling. “Relax, little birdie, I’m not gonna hurt you.”
“Stay away!” The girl snarled, showing her sharp teeth.
“Fine,” Syn shrugged and backed away, smirking.
The girl curled back around her brother, holding him closely.
He laid his head against her and got quiet.
“What’s your names?” Kyth asked, finally shaking herself out of it.
“Vyna Moen,” The girl replied quietly. “And this is Dyn.”
“Vyna and Dyn,” Syn sang quietly. “Dyn, Syn, Dyn, Syn…”
“Be quiet,” Kyth muttered, looking over at him. “Don’t upset her.”
Vyna was watching Syn with narrowed eyes, glaring angrily.
Syn glared right back, sticking a long pink tongue out at her.
She grimaced and turned away.
Kyth sighed. This would be interesting.
I'm just not strong.
